We all came to love the Kingpin for combining an alpine quality binding in a touring package. The only area the Kingpin fell short in was weight. It was not an ideal piece of equipment for extended tours and full day missions in the backcountry, as 650 grams was a bit much for summiting spring peaks and embarking on deep backcountry missions.
Marker took on the challenge and created a 245 gram binding that will rapidly change how you see a tech binding’s capability. Competing with the weight of the ultralight touring bindings, the Alpinist 8 has a DIN rating up to 8 and allows for a lateral release value associated with traditional bindings on the market. Given the Alpinist’s design, Marker has entered the lightweight touring world with a binding that will be safe and secure for whatever conditions you are in.
A moderately wide drill pattern allows for a secure and durable heel placement that supports the binding in high speeds or tight turns. The Alpinist 8, when you are ready to charge your next backcountry mission when weight is a defining factor.
